At one time, information publishing took two forms, either paperback or hard cover. And if you wanted to read a book you had to pick up a physical copy of the book, or listen to the audio version. You don't have to wait weeks for the library to get the latest best seller or even wait 1-2 days for Amazon to deliver it to you. Now you can order an ebook online and have it delivered in just a few seconds. With ebooks there is no worry of a book selling out or being out of stock. There is no worry with distribution methods at all. For this reason, information publishing by ebook has grown like crazy and is here to stay.

Another advantage to publishing your book as an ebook is that if you ever need to update it, you can make changes and instantly put the new version on the market. Correcting errors and updating print books is very expensive and takes a long time. Also, adding color to print books is not done very often except for children's books because of the expense. However, this is not even a consideration with ebooks. You can include color files and photos just as easily as black and white ones.

Another advantage to information publishing by ebook is that you don't have to worry about wear and tear on your books. You can also accumulate a lot of books and they won't take up much room at all - just the size of a DVD. Plus your ebook is very versatile. Your can increase the font size to your own comfort level.

The biggest advantage to ebook publishing is that it is the most economical form of information publishing, and you can do it all yourself. You can invest money on graphics and a professionally prepared PDF file to make your ebook look more attractive, but it isn't needed. All you have to have is an idea and a way to distribute it. While you could just publish your ebook as a TXT or DOC file, the best and most commonly used method is to convert your file to PDF.

Of course there are some drawbacks to ebooks. The main one is that you don't have an actual print book to hold in your hands while you are reading. For that reason, print books are likely to never become extinct.
